Written after reading several poems of Jankovic Zoran, the haunting and nostalgic beauty of his poetry is quite rare and unforgettable.
i met a poet once
at a train stop in Beograd
armed with his pen and eyes
to paint his world and his loves,
the women who caught his heart
with sad eyes he loves his loves,
with sadder heart he gives up life,
he roams the cities to find his dream
not aware his dream was buried
right in his very heart
at every station he tries to find
someone he somehow lost to fate,
the promised laughter and tears of goodbyes,
rebounding through the empty halls
of stations forgotten by time
on long journeys
through cities and countrysides,
he strains to see the passing trains
to glimpse one familiar face
which haunts his mind and eye
on every train that pass
wishing he was a ghost
who lives forever in a dream,
to keep on searching
for one final spark of life
i met a poet once
at a train stop in Beograd
armed with his pen and eyes
to paint his world and his loves,
when he met her soul in time
