This poem was inspired by a poem of the same title that was written by Jane Campion and posted on PoemHunter.com. The first two stanzas were directly taken with minor edit from Jane Campion’s posting while the last two are my own.
into the circle of dreams they came
flailing apparitions ready to dance
from untamed emptiness
a ghostly sight on cold moonlight
firefly-like turned inside out
dancing lights of night
delighting night with their ghostly gown
going up and down all around
pinpoint pointing wispy wisps
as night was eaten by coming dawn
where did they go? my dreams?
why did they leave me behind
to taste an uncertain tomorrow
alone, again, on my own,
for there’s no one else
to share my dream
i would have joined
my circle of dreams
to wake up in another life
had i not tarried for long
clinging to life i no longer own
