No one can weigh the love or measure the amount of support that you receive from your dad. Only his unconditional love can make a man devote his health and time to his children like that. He will always be the first man in your life who protects you from any dangers, teaches you all sources of knowledge to help you know more about the world and is absolutely patient in trying to listen to and understand you in difficult times. As life goes on, you might sometimes forget to show him your love and appreciation due to all the work you have or your personal life’s issues. Thus, let’s use poetry to tell him how much you are grateful for his immense impact on your life, as poetry makes message delivery more delicate and sincere. For many people, it’s a bit challenging to communicate their thoughts and feelings to their loved ones, especially their dads. If you are also in that situation, you can consider looking at our moving and meaningful Father’s Day poems below to help you.
To encourage you to express your feelings to your dad and tell him how much he means to you, we created this collection of moving and meaningful poems for Father’s Day in case you’re stuck for words. You just need to pick one that suits him the most or customize it to how you like it to be.

When I look back on my childhood days
I wouldn’t change a single thing
The times you carried me on your back
And the times we used to sing
I never knew how much i’d miss you
But now that you are gone
Your face is fading in my mind
But in my heart it lingers on
Everything was so simple then I didn’t have a care
Just a dad and his child rocking in a chair
Looking out the window counting all the stars
Watching all the lights flashing from the distant cars
And when the rain hit the windows
We would count each line it made
And you would always say to me
Just as the light would fade
Never be afraid to cry when you are feeling weak
Or show your true feeling, or turn the other cheek
These are the things I cherish the things my father said
As he carried me on his shoulders and laid me on my bed
I never knew how much I’d miss you
But now that you are gone
Your face is fading in my mind
But in my heart it lingers on
You never let me feel unloved
You always showed you cared
You used to hold me in your strong arms
And hug me when I was scared

Father’s Day is just around the corner
And will soon be here to celebrate,
The greatest position held by man
A tremendous responsibility to take.
To accept the role of a father
And protect your children born,
To watch over them and your wife
Through troubled times and storms.
You are the co-creator of their bodies
Their father, guide and friend,
Their mentor and their advisor
Until the very end.
You help them learn how to walk
And run and jump and play,
You teach them manners they will need
When it comes their special day.
You teach them to be gentlemen
And for your daughters to be ladies,
By how you treat their mother
Your family, friends and babies.
You share with them your time each day
Help them understand the world,
Encourage their talents to develop
And their personalities to unfurl.
You teach them about Jesus Christ
And their Heavenly Father above,
You teach them the Ten Commandments
How to care for others and love.
You teach them how Christ suffered for them
And gave His life for their sins,
You teach them to be proper and kind
And to repent from deep within.
You teach them about how Christ loves them
Why He gave up His life for all mankind,
You teach them to be helpful to others
And their parents to always mind.
You are their teacher of worldly ways
To give them a chance with life,
Until they have learned enough from you
To select their own husband or wife.
To join with the new love of their life
As they start the cycle of life anew,
And now become loving parents themselves
With a loving father and grandfather like you.
There’s no greater joy in all the world
As to bring forth children to love,
They don’t come with a book of instructions
So rely on your Heavrnly Father above.
He is the ultimate father you know
Full of wonder and perfect love for us,
He will guide us through our struggles
If we but place in Him our trust.
So, as we celebrate this special day
Fathers, remember who you are,
The sparkle in your children’s eyes
You are their guiding star..!!
They adore and worship each of you
For your loving and caring ways,
You are that special person they love
You endear them in special ways.
So, be the best Dad you can possibly be
Provide guidance and love every day,
There is always more they can learn from you
So, celebrate with them, this “Father’s Day”..!!

Greatness is in my blood
I never have to ask why I’m so strong
You were always able to carry the
burdens of life and make it look easy
Originality is in my blood
I never have to wonder why I have such
a vast imagination
You were always a big dreamer
Toughness is in my blood
I never have to question why I’m so resilient
You were a boxer getting knocked down and
always getting back up again
Diligence is in my blood
I never have to guess why I love to study and learn
You were a master at teaching yourself new skills
You could learn anything
Dignity is in my blood
I never have to inquire about whether or not I’m worth it
You always said that I was a genius and that my light
brightens up the world
Daddy, thank you for all that is in my blood
I am who I am because of you
I honor you, I appreciate you, and I continue
to strive to make you proud
It’s in my blood

Happy Father’s Day, it’s so hard being away from my kids.
Reminiscing on time we were together, & things that we did.
For mine, I’ll do anything in this world.
I can’t wait until I have them back in my world.
I keep them in my prays, every day & night.
Asking The All Most High, to make sure they are blessed & doing alright.
I’m a very proud father, I can leave this Earth feeling accomplished.
& I still have a way to go, & so much more to accomplished.
Two sons & three daughters, what more could I ask for.
They are all what I need, I’m not trying to have any more.
My first Father’s Day being away, I’m in so much pain.
I hear that there are always brighter days after the rain.
I came so far, and got so much more to go.
Started at seventeen, finished before three zero.
I’m a very proud father, the feelings I’m feeling is more than words can say.
I’m so thankful of the love I receive, on every Father’s Day.

Don’t think father is big brother
He is always the best friend rather
He also love his children like mother
Father, mother take care of you together
It is his responsibility to save you in danger
Father is always rational and kind
A mentor like him no where you can find
But for your future he don’t follow you blind
If father scold you, no need to keep in mind
On Father’s Day memories with him rewind.
6, Father’s Day © John Wright
Dear Dad, this Sunday is for you
but it is also for me because of the loving
dad that you be
So much joy of memories as a child
in our walks together out in the wild
among the forest trees and streams and
all the times I helped you raising honeybees
All those early childhood years of memories
are still flowing with joy under my skin and
so often come out of my poetry pen
The way you always loved mom was like
walking into the middle of love poem
each time I saw you kissing mom
Your romantic side didn’t slide away and
fall down a cliff and make the roots decay
but grew within me from the family tree
You were the kind of man I wanted to be
I remember sitting on the street corner
with my two friends as a teen
telling them what I wanted out of life
was to get married and have a loving wife
Those two friends several year later
were in my wedding party when I married my true love
along with the love of the best man my brother Dan
As her dad whom I loved and admired walked my heart’s desire
down the aisle and gave me my true loves hand
I have learned so many wonderful lessons from you
over all these years of time and this month I will be fifty-nine
Those lessons have made me a better husband and man out of me
I’m thankful that apple did not fall to far from the tree
for me to see how all your actions and lessons helped me
with your inspiring love for mom and family
I’m thankful for the humbleness door that allowed me to see
and be blessed in my chest with joy of our similarities
Like the love of poetry and natures nest of forest trees
with streams, how blessed a Father’s Day this one will be
being at the Grand Canyon of Pa with the family
I love you dad more than words can say
But as a poetry lover in your own heart
you know that poets can open up their heart
and write their deep love upon a page
Happy Father’s Day

He goes thru grind always smilingly;
Taking on resolutely scary hardships,
Raising righteously his dear family;
Uplifting the family spirits which slip.
Leading from front and setting examples;
Taking on the devil’s bulls by the horns,
Sealing family rifts with love. .so ample;
Assuaging family relations ..so badly torn.
Soothing emotionally wounded siblings;
Encouraging them always to do the best,
Mentoring them for the positive feelings ;
Working for their success till his last rest.
He is the epitome of love and dedication ;
Dying daily for family to be high esteem ,
Never winning medals or appreciations;
Lone Warrior firing cylinders on his steam.

He never showed his tears
But silently worked for dears
His duty is protect children’s fears
For their safety and security he cares
Family’s pain many times alone bears;
Father is like the working bee
His contribution sometimes we don’t see
From no one of the family he demands fee
But to every member he distribute ghee
In the family he is the umbrella

O, my Father!
Let me touch your feet
Filled is my heart with bliss
That I am not Fatherless
Hold my hands, O Father
Take me to the kingdom of heaven
Listen to me, my son, my endearing one
Know that which is unlimited by form
And shape is the kingdom of heaven
Heaven is not ‘this’ or ‘that’, nor ‘here’ or ‘there’
Once there, you can’t say it’s good or bad
No opposites, no realm of relatives are there
Hold my hand and come to heaven
You will melt there into one eternity of “Be”
O, my loved Son!
You need not come to Heaven
I am within you unmanifested
You dwell in my being
By Me is meant a Supreme One Reality
From which are fathered all creatures,
All objects that the world is pervaded with
O Son! You are not separate from me
I am the One all beings dwell in.
Come,
I am within you, you are within me
For ever, not on a “Father’s Day” alone
As projected by your Corporate brothers
To secretly enhance their sales and profit.
10, Hands © Samuel Lowe
My father’s hands
When I was small
Were rough, yet kind and warm
They labored all day
And picked me up
And patched my knee when it was torn
My mother’s hands
Were soft and small
But strong from years of work
They clipped my hair
And cooked good food
And ensured I did not shirk
My brothers’ hands
Were quick and smart
Showing me to do new things
Folding airplanes
Playing games
Teaching with firm assurings
My sisters’ hands
Carried me forth
To adventures of the mind
Dragons and knights
Running through brush
To let the thread of thought unwind
My own large hands
Have learned a lot
From years of life and friends
A new scar here
A new skill learned
Moving until life finally ends
A pair of hands
Is special indeed
For the things that they may bring
Wonderful art?
A special craft?
Or the addition of a ring?
One set I know
That lifts me up
Is the one with holes in the palm
The Savior’s hands
Were pierced for us
To apply the Atonement’s balm.
So remember and learn
Of what hands can do
Will they hug, or strike, or shake?
“What beautiful things”
You may ask yourself
“Could these hands of mine someday make?”

The unsung heroes of this generation
The ones who act as master puppeteers
Controlling their children on a very short string
For all the effort and time they spend on their children
They at least need a day of celebration
We see our fathers as superheroes
Some see them in the same light as a king
But overall, we praise them in the highest regard
For he who plants the seed
And trims off all the dead leaves
Want the tree to grow as tall as can be
Reaching out to the sky
Stand firm in even the most disastrous conditions
A little “tough love” is always on the card
He is the protector
The one who gives guidance
Acts as an inspector
Always seeking fault in everything us,children does
We are the reason why it is a joy for him to wake up in the morning
Although being corrected and constantly taught the right things
Can be a little bit annoying
But we know why our fathers do that
Every action towards us is a form of love
All they ask for in return, is respect
Our fathers will never be our equals
They are the pillars that keeps us from crumbling down
So, its time to celebrate this special occasion
Give props to our fathers who led us in this generation

My father
Thanks be unto God the Father
for His great work in creating man.
God decided to reproduce Himself,
So He formed man with His hand.
Through this my father came to be.
My dad may not be the richest
He may not be the handsomest
But he is the perfect man on earth
He is the most Caring, kind and loving
Man I ever see
If I write a story about my father
It would be the greatest ever.
He is the only honest man I know
He is the only man that has never broken my heart
That’s why I will love my father forever
15, Father © Edgar Albert Guest
My father knows the proper way
The nation should be run;
He tells us children every day
Just what should now be done.
He knows the way to fix the trusts,
He has a simple plan;
But if the furnace needs repairs,
We have to hire a man.
My father, in a day or two
Could land big thieves in jail;
There’s nothing that he cannot do,
He knows no word like “fail.”
“Our confidence” he would restore,
Of that there is no doubt;
But if there is a chair to mend,
We have to send it out.
All public questions that arise,
He settles on the spot;
He waits not till the tumult dies,
But grabs it while it’s hot.
In matters of finance he can
Tell Congress what to do;
But, O, he finds it hard to meet
His bills as they fall due.
It almost makes him sick to read
The things law-makers say;
Why, father’s just the man they need,
He never goes astray.
All wars he’d very quickly end,
As fast as I can write it;
But when a neighbor starts a fuss,
’Tis mother has to fight it.
In conversation father can
Do many wondrous things;
He’s built upon a wiser plan
Than presidents or kings.
He knows the ins and outs of each
And every deep transaction;
We look to him for theories,
But look to ma for action.

The boys who fled my father’s house in fear
Of what his wrath would cost them if he found
Them nibbling slowly at his daughter’s ear,
Would vanish out the back without a sound,
And glide just like the shadow of a crow,
To wait beside the elm tree in the snow.
Something quite deadly rumbled in his voice.
He sniffed the air as if he knew the scent
Of teenage boys, and asked, “What was that noise?”
Then I’d pretend to not know what he meant,
Stand mutely by, my heart immense with dread,
As Father set the traps and went to bed.
17, Only a Dad © Edgar Albert Guest
Only a dad, with a tired face,
Coming home from the daily race,
Bringing little of gold or fame,
To show how well he has played the game,
But glad in his heart that his own rejoice
To see him come, and to hear his voice.
Only a dad, with a brood of four,
One of ten million men or more.
Plodding along in the daily strife,
Bearing the whips and the scorns of life,
With never a whimper of pain or hate,
For the sake of those who at home await.
Only a dad, neither rich nor proud,
Merely one of the surging crowd
Toiling, striving from day to day,
Facing whatever may come his way,
Silent, whenever the harsh condemn,
And bearing it all for the love of them.
Only a dad, but he gives his all
To smooth the way for his children small,
Doing, with courage stern and grim,
The deeds that his father did for him.
This is the line that for him I pen,
Only a dad, but the best of men.
18, My Papa’s Waltz © Theodore Roethke
The whiskey on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy;
But I hung on like death:
Such waltzing was not easy.
We romped until the pans
Slid from the kitchen shelf;
My mother’s countenance
Could not unfrown itself.
The hand that held my wrist
Was battered on one knuckle;
At every step you missed
My right ear scraped a buckle.
You beat time on my head
With a palm caked hard by dirt,
Then waltzed me off to bed
Still clinging to your shirt.

To pull the metal splinter from my palm
my father recited a story in a low voice.
I watched his lovely face and not the blade.
Before the story ended, he’d removed
the iron sliver I thought I’d die from.
I can’t remember the tale,
but hear his voice still, a well
of dark water, a prayer.
And I recall his hands,
two measures of tenderness
he laid against my face,
the flames of discipline
he raised above my head.
Had you entered that afternoon
you would have thought you saw a man
planting something in a boy’s palm,
a silver tear, a tiny flame.
Had you followed that boy
you would have arrived here,
where I bend over my wife’s right hand.
Look how I shave her thumbnail down
so carefully she feels no pain.
Watch as I lift the splinter out.
I was seven when my father
took my hand like this,
and I did not hold that shard
between my fingers and think,
Metal that will bury me,
christen it Little Assassin,
Ore Going Deep for My Heart.
And I did not lift up my wound and cry,
Death visited here!
I did what a child does
when he’s given something to keep.
I kissed my father.

I lift your body to the boat
before you drown or choke or slip too far
beneath. I didn’t think—just jumped, just did
what I did like the physics
that flung you in. My hands clutch under
year-old arms, between your life
jacket and your bobbing frame, pushing you,
like a fountain cherub, up and out.
I’m fooled by the warmth pulsing from
the gash on my thigh, sliced wide and clean
by an errant screw on the stern.
No pain. My legs kick out blood below.
My arms strain
against our deaths to hold you up
as I lift you, crying, reaching, to the boat.
21, Happy Fathers © Day Poet Fest
In the fields
On the streets
At sea
& Beneath the earth’s surface
Sweats running down the wrinkled faces
Full of hopes
And dreams
Of that heaven-like homes
Goodnight sleeps are forbidden
Having no time to relax in the sofa
The pain and suffering must remain hidden
One day it will be over “they say”
The struggles seem endless
But Love surpassing all other things is the fuel
And that’s why giving up isn’t an option
Even when life’s treatment is cruel
The smiles of the sons and daughters are prioritized
With little regards to theirs
Their own health, marginalized
Yes, that’s the story of our Fathers.
God Bless You Able Fathers, your rewards are with the most High One.
We Love You.

We are celebrating a lot of days like
Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Children’s day,
Woman’s day, beggar’s day, Independence Day
May Day, Wedding day, and the same list are endless.
The purpose of celebrating a particular day
To make aware the public about the subject
Matter.
Thousands of people die every day due to
Heart attack.
Therefore it is a must we needed a heart day
To make aware to maintain the health
Of our heart.
A healthy heart is essential for a happy life.
Therefore heart day is a must to keep our smile
In our whole life.
23, My Father’s Say © Paulsen Anthologies
“In our family a son
was born,” or so my
father’s say,
They knew in a
minute because I
was the one, he
called son.
He’s like his mzee
in every way.” or so
now they say,
Comparable father
like son, He’d be a
star banker when it
was time.
So, he educated me,
before I could even
tête-à-tête,
How to draw and
count numbers with
his doodle,
Instead of playing, I
cultured to shoot
oranges into a picnic basket,
Because they’re certain thoughts to keep.
While he’s getting shorter, I’m getting taller,
but the color of our hair is the same,
His outfits are all neatly put in the drawer,
while mine look more natural spread on the
floor,
Soon, off to model management he went to be
a star in every event,
His eyes were like stars, his face, it did beam
as he dreamed of the day when he’d appear at
a runway event.
Somehow, they can’t understand this at all.
For my father went for work and left me
every day,
Then when before my father we stand
And show them titles we have in hand
And this my relentless prayer shall be,
That until life is done,
My conduct here shall honor him
“Who I proudly call son.”
24, Dear Heavenly Father © Danny Boy Bourg
Lord, I come before you in humbleness and in the meekness of my spirit
I heard just now on the news, something that I wish I didn’t hear it
The trouble of our nation, that started 20 years ago on our own soil
We were brought to our knees on 9-11, and 20 years later as a snake they still coil
Father I know you say to respect our leaders, but please may I dare???
What happens Father when you have a leader, that doesn’t seem to care???
In Afghanistan God, we have soldiers and citizens, taking on some heat
Wow Father, so much fear, that they can’t take a chance walking a street
Today Father we loss some service men and women, and civilians died too
As a suicide bomber went into a crowd, and killed themselves too
Father how could someone hate so much, to be able to take their own life?
When we as a nation Father, how can we turn the tide, this wave of strife?
Father please help the grieving, give comfort please in this day of loss
This shouldn’t have happened, their were better means for this path to cross
My own tears God, I know them in my heart for other’s to be real
So why do some of our leaders not care, have they not a heart to feel?
Please don’t take you hands off of us, as a nation we need you more than ever
Help guide us back to where we started, a journey God, to be shared together
May the bad Father, turn their minds to see the evil they possess
Can evil turn it’s head, or is they’re bitterness too deep to address
I ask protection for the ones, still trying to make their way back home
And for all the one whom befriended our nation, give them peace soon
Please give our service men and women, the knowledge to discern
With protection from above, in this darkness Father be their light that burns
Please help all the loved ones waiting for news, grace them with your calm
Grant them your love Father, may their hearts rest in your palms
Wrap us in your love, may the healing of a world start to begin
I ask this with all my heart to yours, in your son’s name I pray amen

Be more than his dad,
Be a chum to the lad;
Be a part of his life
Every hour of the day;
Find time to talk with him,
Take time to walk with him,
Share in his studies
And share in his play;
Take him to places,
To ball games and races,
Teach him the things
That you want him to know;
Don’t live apart from him,
Don’t keep your heart from him,
Be his best comrade,
He’s needing you so!
Never neglect him,
Though young, still respect him,
Hear his opinions
With patience and pride;
Show him his error,
But be not a terror,
Grim-visaged and fearful,
When he’s at your side.
Know what his thoughts are,
Know what his sports are,
Know all his playmates,
It’s easy to learn to;
Be such a father
That when troubles gather
You’ll be the first one
For counsel, he’ll turn to.
You can inspire him
With courage, and fire him
Hot with ambition
For deeds that are good;
He’ll not betray you
Nor illy repay you,
If you have taught him
The things that you should.
Father and son
Must in all things be one—
Partners in trouble
And comrades in joy.
More than a dad
Was the best pal you had;
Be such a chum
As you knew, to your boy.
27, Father © Edgar Guest
Used to wonder just why Father
Never had much time for play,
Used to wonder why he’d rather
Work each minute of the day.
Used to wonder why he never
Loafed along the road an’ shirked;
Can’t recall a time whenever
Father played while others worked.
Father didn’t dress in fashion,
Sort of hated clothing new;
Style with him was not a passion;
He had other things in view.
Boys are blind to much that’s going
On about’em day by day,
And I had no way of knowing
What became of Father’s pay.
All I knew was when I needed
Shoes I got ’em on the spot;
Everything for which I pleaded,
Somehow, Father always got.
Wondered, season after season,
Why he never took a rest,
And that I might be the reason
Then I never even guessed.
Father set a store on knowledge;
If he’d lived to have his way
He’d have sent me off to college
And the bills been glad to pay.
That, I know, was his ambition:
Now and then he used to say
He’d have done his earthly mission
On my graduation day.
Saw his cheeks were getting paler,
Didn’t understand just why;
Saw his body growing frailer,
Then at last I saw him die.
Rest had come! His tasks were ended
Calm was written on his brow;
Father’s life was big and splendid,
And I understand it now.
28, A Boy and His Dad © Edgar Guest
A boy and his dad on a fishing-trip—
There is a glorious fellowship!
Father and son and the open sky
And the white clouds lazily drifting by,
And the laughing stream as it runs along
With the clicking reel like a martial song,
And the father teaching the youngster gay
How to land a fish in the sportsman’s way.
I fancy I hear them talking there
In an open boat, and the speech is fair.
And the boy is learning the ways of men
From the finest man in his youthful ken.
Kings, to the youngster, cannot compare
With the gentle father who’s with him there.
And the greatest mind of the human race
Not for one minute could take his place.
Which is happier, man or boy?
The soul of the father is steeped in joy,
For he’s finding out, to his heart’s delight,
That his son is fit for the future fight.
He is learning the glorious depths of him,
And the thoughts he thinks and his every whim;
And he shall discover, when night comes on,
How close he has grown to his little son.
29. Daddy Fell Into the Pond © Alfred Noyes
Everyone grumbled. The sky was grey.
We had nothing to do and nothing to say.
We were nearing the end of a dismal day,
And then there seemed to be nothing beyond,
Then
Daddy fell into the pond!
And everyone’s face grew merry and bright,
And Timothy danced for sheer delight.
“Give me the camera, quick, oh quick!
He’s crawling out of the duckweed!” Click!
Then the gardener suddenly slapped his knee,
And doubled up, shaking silently,
And the ducks all quacked as if they were daft,
And it sounded as if the old drake laughed.
Oh, there wasn’t a thing that didn’t respond
When
Daddy Fell into the pond!
30, When Papa Was a Boy © E.A. Brininstool
When papa was a little boy you really couldn’t find
In all the country round about a child so quick to mind.
His mother never called but once, and he was always there;
He never made the baby cry or pulled his sister’s hair.
He never slid down banisters or made the slightest noise,
And never in his life was known to fight with other boys.
He always rose at six o’clock and went to bed at eight,
And never lay abed till noon; and never sat up late.
He finished Latin, French and Greek when he was ten year old,
And knew the Spanish alphabet as soon as he was told.
He never, never thought of play until his work was done,
He labored hard from break of day until the set of sun.
He never scraped his muddy shoes upon the parlor floor,
And never answered, back his ma, and never banged the door.
“But, truly, I could never see,” said little Dick Molloy,
“How he could never do these things and really be a boy.”
31, When Father Carves the Duck © E.V. Wright
We all look on with anxious eyes
When Father carves the duck,
And Mother almost always sighs
When Father carves the duck;
Then all of us prepare to rise
And hold our bibs before our eyes,
And be prepared for some surprise
When Father carves the duck.
He braces up and grabs the fork,
Whene’er he carves the duck,
And won’t allow a soul to talk
Until he carves the duck.
The fork is jabbed into the sides,
Across the breast the knife he slides,
While every careful person hides
From flying chips of duck.
The platter’s always sure to slip
When Father carves the duck,
And how it makes the dishes skip—
Potatoes fly amuck.
The squash and cabbage leap in space,
We get some gravy in our face,
And Father mutters Hindoo grace
Whene’er he carves a duck.
We then have learned to walk around
The dining room and pluck
From off the window-sills and walls
Our share of Father’s duck.
While Father growls and blows and jaws,
And swears the knife was full of flaws,
And Mother laughs at him because
He couldn’t carve a duck.
32, The Little Millionaire © Richard Whittington
My little daughter climbed up on my knee,
And said, with an air of great mystery,
“I’ve a secret to tell you, papa,
But I must whisper it close in your ear,
And don’t you speak of it, papa dear,
For there’s nobody knows but mamma.
“I am very rich! Very rich indeed!
I have far more money than I shall need;
I counted my money to-day—
Twenty new pennies—all of them mine—
And one little silver piece called a dime
That I got from my grandpapa Gray.
“I have fourteen nickels and one three-cent,
Five silver quarters, though one of them’s bent;
And, papa dear, something still better,
Three big white dollars! not one of them old,
And, whisper, one beautiful piece of gold
That came in my uncle Tom’s letter.”
Then she clapped her small hands, laughed merry and clear,
Put her soft rosy lips down close to my ear,
(Oh, so lovely the fair curly head!)
“Am I not very rich? Now answer me true,
Am I not richer, far richer, than you?
Whisper, papa,” she artlessly said.
I looked at her face, so young and so fair,
I thought of her life untouched by care,
And I said, with a happy sigh,
As my lips touched softly her waiting ear,
“You’re exceedingly rich, my daughter dear!
Ten thousand times richer than I!”
33, Some Other Child © Maude Keary
Dear Father, I am very glad
I was the little girl you had!
Suppose some other child had come
To live inside my pleasant home,
To run and climb upon your knee-
Some other child who was not me-
Would you have called her by my name
And thought about her just the same?
