Across the vastness of grand rift.
With his roja roja, Jimmy the swift.
We listened to music on our way.
It feels like it was less than a day.
The time of our life in endless plains.
In emeralds scattered darker stains.
Dancing with glee we saw big five
Yelling, bellowing we felt so alive
Went through mush, slush of tracks
Yelled and swore with arching backs
Veered, swung, bumped our heads
Aching by evening we snored in beds
Wore their “shukkas” rivaled the cry
Jumped and yodeled with the Masai
Elephants, buffaloes careless grazed
Across the plains cheetahs blazed
Skirted big birds, toucans in pairs
Lay lazy Lions, lionesses in lairs
Peculiar calls of hyenas that laugh
Necking pairs of graceful giraffe
Fresh grasses swayed in rolling swells.
Restive zebras roamed with gazelles.
Humble wildebeest we mustn’t forget.
On this lowly equid, you can always bet.
Huge lazy blobs like rust color rubber.
Hippos in Mara like so much blubber.
As a majestic leopard lazed on a tree.
Exhaling oohs, ahs we shot with glee.
I felt acutely, they are just like me, life!
Unawares caught up in this human strife.
