It was about four o’clock this morning
Two cats already sat outside bedroom door to wait for me.
I guessed they were hungry and they wanted to eat.
To ask me to open, they gently tapped on the door.
I continued staying in bed
Because, I would like to see their next tricks.
Then I heard the second round of tapping
However the taps are still gentle so I didn’t respond.
I got out of bed and quickly I wrote down this poem
Because I might forget these verses if I fall asleep.
Ten more minutes have passed.
Two cats waited outside quietly with no more tapping.
After finishing this poem, I opened the door.
Two cat happily followed my steps.

Translation of a Vietnamese Poem of NHIEN NGUYEN MD:
ASHES VÀ NOEL CHỜ CỬA PHÒNG NGỦ
Sáng nay, mới bốn giờ thôi
Mèo đã ngồi đó, mèo chờ tôi ra.
Chắc rằng bụng đói cần ăn
Mèo xin mở cửa, chân cào nhẹ thôi.
Tôi thì vẫn ở trên giường
Chờ xem mèo sẽ trổ mòi gì đây.
Thế rồi mèo gõ hiệp hai
Chân cào vẫn nhẹ, tôi chưa trả lời.
Tôi dậy, chép vội vần thơ
Nếu ngủ, quên mất vần thơ mèo cào.
Chờ thêm mười phút xem sao
Mèo không gõ cửa, chỉ nằm chờ thôi.
Sau khi viết hết bài thơ
Tôi liền mở cửa, dẫn đường, mèo theo.
