Darkness, coolness,
Overcrowds our happy universe,
The moon looks amused,
The stars peek fondly on
From infinity afar,
Guiding us to Treacys bar,
Headlights from passing cars,
Illuminating ghostly gorse bushes,
On the ancient Heath, so lush,
We walk without any fuss.
Tall, leggy, like a thoroughbred filly,
We used to laugh so much,
When I acted silly,
You lived life with your extreme beauty,
Dazzle, razzle,
Long brown wavy tresses, vibrant,
Cute smile, face magnetic,
Your pace always energetic.
People attracted to your friendly nature,
An open, warm heart singing, trusting,
All part of your life’s chart,
Paved with peaches and cream,
With a time to dream,
You were the bright dawn of every morn,
Golden sunsets relished,
Your adorable pets treasured.
Walking across the Heath near Portlaoise,
Flat, lunar, landscape,
With the drape of black velvet,
Swept across the outer regions,
Soothing our young nerves,
Longing for the high stool,
Like a dive into a familiar pool,
Drenched with thoughts of cold lager
And Dunhill cigarettes.
Chatter about horses, friends,
boys, funny stories,
Giggling, comfortable like a pair of knitted gloves,
A time, place, graced by your presence,
Danced with the joy of giving,
Loving the simplicity of living,
An earthly goddess.
Walking across the Heath,
Talking in waves,
Repeats, retreats,
Walking with my best friend,
A straight road,
With no bad bends.
These ingrained images,
I send to you with love,
To God’s holy kingdom above.
