Behind The Eyes Of Amedeo Modigliani (Laquartus Quod Denique Poesia) – Poem by Frank James Ryan Jr (FjR)
Beautiful women of Italia,
distorted by ocular shadow,
eclipsing white empty sockets,
reflecting total occlusion-
void of lens and iris
But, ahhhh, yes, the visages
cream complexions,
hourglass forme,
so suggestively posed
you might warm and blush
if you weren’t so awed,
so damn self-engrossed
by the bizarre and shock
of the white hollow almonds,
surrealistic insets-
as so they appear
in his ocular ruse!
These stunning ladies
naked and blind,
never watching, observing,
viewing eye to eye;
how could they? !
And the artist, eccentric
with his Third-Eye Mind
attracting the likes
of the Spaniard Picasso
always shadowing him
closely behind
with dagger in hand,
at the Misini Gallery
Nel centro storico di Firenze
No mind, no matter-
he knows how to bleed
warm paint on cold canvass
Abstract and skewed,
subluxed spine-lines,
long dripping jaw-lines
sexualyes,
starkly nude
And the eyes, the eyes;
deep and white hauntingly empty, and-
strikingly mad be this artist
and his passionate, sensual air
exclusivelyexpressively,
so artfully ghastly,
each work of a womanWomen in guise?
Beautifully staring enframed without eyes!
And the queries imbued journals
of the latest artistique vogue
could this queer Italian talent
been crypting a queerer message-
that a woman need not
stare at the deep of her beauty,
to believe she is God’s greatest gift?
And should this not be gospel,
then to his Death
so the Artist has taken his mystery
A mystery from behind
his very own eyes,
behind his very own eyes
Esso’s tempo scoprire
il lavoro di Amedeo Modigliani
