Write something, type something
Open Notes and try something
Type up a new rhyme
Stop acting like
You’re trying to hide something
Words, comma, backspace,
Backtrack, mindracing
Trying to find that perfect word with
Rhyme, meter, and pace
But can’t forget to check
If it makes sense
In the context with the rest,
Because if not
I’ll have a hot mess of nonsense
Honestly, I think of my poetry quite often
More so with the thought of
“Dang, I gotta get on it”
And all it does is put stress on my brain
But I promise, my verses will see another day
My thoughts, how they float down
but crash among the treetops.
Parachute torn up
Don’t look down
Until they drop to the ground
Then what next? What now?
Why the fall? What’s the purpose?
Why go all the way from outer space
down to the surface?
I suppose this poem has a sense of irony
Since I don’t seem to have practiced
what I preached in stanza 3.
Some might call it abstract,
an act of nonconformity
But the truth is I’m a mess
and that it’s straight hypocrisy
This whole poem is a wreck
Well, at least I wrote something.
I hope my right brain has some better things coming.
Maybe some day I’ll set my words to island strumming
But for now, just the rhymes.
Thanks for reading.
Keep becoming.
This poem isn’t one of my best, but it’s honest. I really only wrote this because I want to get back into writing poetry again, and lately I haven’t really has the motivation. I couldn’t think of something to write about, so I ended up writing about the process of writing itself. I’d like to think I get creativity points for that. I’m also a little surprised at how long I managed to make it. I initially thought I would only be able to muster up 3 stanzas, but I ended up writing 8. They’re not long or thought provoking, but like I said, “at least I wrote something.” This one goes out to everyone who’s in a motivational and/or creative slump. Try to make something, and see where it takes you. I wish you the best.
