(World War Two)
Air raid sirens scream
German bombers are coming
Death soon to fall
Bringing destruction and death.
People in panic run for air raid shelters
Waiting for rain of death to end
Emerging finding houses rubble
Dead among the ruins.
Streets ablaze
Roads smashed and broken
Living and dead buried where houses stood
Death has reaped asunder.
In London’s East End
Where green grocer’s shop stood
Flies a flag fluttering in the breeze
Inscribed with “Still open for business”.
Night after night bombers came
But British spirit and resolve
Remained steadfast and true
And united the people were unbroken.
