The Old School On Oak Street

The old school on Oak Street
Holds memories for me,
Of elementary years
And a time that was carefree.

‘Twas a part of my foundation,
The formative years;
Preparing for the future,
With all its hidden fears.

Reading, writing, arithmetic.
Spelling, chorus, art.
Science and English
Were all a vital part.

But, too, there was fun.
The old ‘playground, ‘
The highlight of the day,
Gave a ‘break’ from the ‘noun.’

The teachers were endearing—
So lovable and kind.
The food was delicious,
And cooked, oh, so fine.

The old school on Oak Street—
Haynes Elementary—
I will always cherish
With such fond memory.
