There’s an owl in the neighborhood
I hear him every night.
At times he’s near, at times he’s far,
But never in plain sight.
There’s an owl in the neighborhood,
Watching o’er us all.
Reminds me of the older hands,
When we were very small.
I hear him hooting in the dark,
This neighborhood owl,
A symbol of great wisdom—
But, again, he’s just a fowl.
