Frequently,
I’m on grey streets
gathering rain.

my heart is enchained
in fetters
of memory and regret.

I watched her leave
silently in the night
and never sought
to kiss or touch her.

Impatient for love,
preoccupied with loneliness,
I exist in shadows
and dream of light.

I’m obsessed
with a woman’s movements,
feminine hands reaching
for a glass of wine,
black hair caressing
a thin pale neck.

But there’s so many things
I’m learning to forget.
