the delicious words she spoke
sweetened with texture and tone
my big brown eyes, mouth agape
her joy of the written word, in to me she had sewn.
Like some wild ride at a carnival
that dipped, hither and fro
and upside down and right side up
she weaved an amazing rhetorical show
I thought she knew in my plea
how I yearned for more words
but we drifted away from youth filled needs
barely remained any utterances or blurbs
I had almost forgotten those days
days of words, delicious and sweet
spoken with such texture and tone
’til the day I read to my daughters,
…just as she had read with me.
