At the bar unable to stand ,
he took his drink up in his hand,
Turned to his friend he said one for the road,
Wellover the limit of the driving code.
He went outside got in his car,
said to his friend well its not to far,
I’m fine to drive things will be alright,
I didn’t drink that much tonight.
Down the highway with impaired driving,
Talking and laughing no thoughts of surviving,
He didn’t see it coming as he gathered his speed,
The highway to death on his journey proceed.
The road ahead it seemed so clear,
But all of a sudden was no longer there,
He lost control as he came to a bend,
Crashed into the guard rail and went over the edge.
Twisted metal splattered with red,
He reached for his friend but was already dead,
He tried to picture a different scene,
Anything to stop his terrified scream.
Trapped in the wreckage his dead friend by his side,
His body all broken wished the pain to subside,
Then the sound of sirens he vividly recalled,
And out of carnage his body was hauled.
Months of recovery he would have to endure,
And the extend of his injuries there wasn’t a cure,
Wheelchair bound, and loss of sight,
Was the price he would pay for drink driving that night.
He remembers his friend and lives in regret,
His mistake the memory,
He will never forget.
