From There Wisdom Shall Begin

perhaps i needed it most
and so i gave myself the much needed
boost.

i claimed effortless superiority in
law school.
i boasted that law school was easy.
i was top of my class and i reaped
those awards.

i delighted in my own air and i flew
away like a bird from those open windows.

i told them, believe in yourself, and think
that law school is easy, and it will be
as easy as you want it to be.

i told them, i was then a parrot, giving
back what words my professors gave me.

what was in there? that tabula rasa, that
empty mind, that open window

that willingness to accept that
we do not know anything and from there
wisdom shall begin.
