I wished upon a star tonight
That your future would be bright
A respite from a past of pain,
And you’d have cause to smile again
I wished your countenance would glow
And soften your brow’s deep furrow
That, always, you’d have strength and pep,
A jaunty spring define your step.
And then I told that shining star
How great I truly think you are
It seemed to twinkle back at me
As though, on high, it did agree
