Would you imagine that modern medicine
makes as much harm as good?
As a matter of fact,
medicine is the third leading cause of death
in North America, after heart disease and cancer.
According to a study published in the Journal
of the American Medical Association in 2000,
adverse effects resulting from medical treatment
and errors kill more than 250,000 people yearly
in North America.
These iatrogenic (medicine-caused)deaths occur
because of surgeons who perform myriads of
unneccessary surgeries.
Another grave hazard comes
from correctly prescribed drugs that kill
the patient through adverse side effects,
Also, thousands of people suffer damage
or die as a consequence of medical errors
and negligence, such as getting the wrong
medication, or contracting infections
at a clinic or in a hospital.
