I asked you to endorse my love
By holding my hands
And not by chaining my soul
I wanted to show you that love
Is not slavery of mind and body
But is the security and assurance
I longed to teach you that kisses aren’t
Contracts to fulfil
But is a desire to enjoy
Finally, you learned that even the sunshine
Burns if you get too much
And soul needed decoration by heart.
In my teaching and your learning
I see you grow by the grace of an adult
And not the grief of a child.
