We looked at each other
Over the bamboo fence
As the east wind shook
The trees to get hold
Of the full moon trapped between their trunks
Like a recalcitrant boy
Playing with his toys
Two hours yet to go
Before the sun rose
Your eyes then shone like stars
And I stood watching them
Across the fence
Uttered not we a word
But yet said all that there was to be said
Thank you for that memory, dear
Every time the trees capture the moon
In their swaying hold
I see your smiling face
And the stars shining in your eyes
No matter where you are now
Dead or alive
Oh, do lovers ever die?
