As clouds disperse along the glowing East,
The sun makes its appearance, yawning,
The dew-kissed rose begins to blush and sigh,
While birds announce a new day’s dawning
How frail and incompetent this sunrise,
Its once-splendid beams now barely glow,
Compared to the glorious flames of love
That burn in me when thoughts of you flow
I’d rejoice just to have you near to me,
If I could but hold your dear hand in mine,
This simple prayer sent to Heaven each day,
Wrapped in hope, tied with love’s blessed twine
But loneliness won’t abdicate its throne,
Love and joy cannot be the sole tenants,
And when my heart dares to dream of your love,
Fear and doubt impose their harsh penance
Emptiness and longing weave their tendrils
Around me tightly like a choking vine,
And I cannot move, I’m frozen with fear,
Fear that your love will never be mine
But only Time can lift the future’s veil,
So, faithfully I will stand at Hope’s gate,
Waiting and watching for you to appear,
Placing my trust in the hands of Fate
