Limestone Road:

Limestone road we no longer need
A hit for highs from dust and grind
Sewer lines through flues down
Gutters over spillways into endemic
Cholera share creeks where we swim
Inexpressive swimming-strokes taken
To tipping points in synchronicity reach to
Bridge high to trestle tracks lifted above
Trenches below B&O freight trains on
Wheels on rails over waste runoff streams
Oak trees and trestles bridge from electric
Sun rays grounded to alchemized new life

Barren backyards crust behind Negro
Shacks down by that part of town
Police called “Creek Bottom” – white
Masked poor and black souls toil as
Underemployed peoples reposed in a
Restless sleep –the two dreams voodoo
Pleasures to scare each other – on edge
At prefaces of the pit of economic war
The Lord’s next supper for the better
Forgives and then deny him or not
Provides discerning spirits – forgiving
Communes in the Lord’s broken body

At home stoking coal to raise chimney
Smoke at ends of day and night long
Winters – hope barely survives winters’
Faith – fails unconditional love for
The common-law laborers’ work…
Fields – rural route delivery trucks –ware-
House stock-shelf stackers – nights are
Audible with whistles and horns – sound
Approaches in foehns at tipping points
Emotional whims make conditional love
As often as storms and winds create
Wakes making sounds as rails vibrate to

Hum perfect pitch-art imitating fiddle
Strings tightened to tune to instrumental
Perfect pitch –clack creaking steel
Wheels react to silent interludes…
Joint nails tie creosol logs to rails that
Ring out soul in measured symphonies
Skeptical of heart beats – the courthouse
Shut down for ritual holidays –witnesses
Stand in jury boxes making hollow pleas
For justifiable but merciless mockeries
Chambers shake to the halls of justice
The judges’ chambers quake –State &

Local legislatures and banks close on
Condition red –no one hears what
Citizens say –moments pass him by
Graves dug with holes open and empty
Wait to hear what certainty says
Read the lift and drift as dust settles
From the limestone road -read on
Down through the undertakers’ listed
Dead – death is certain so the word said
Inhale limestone dust – live out the
Country boy’s hit as is –the farm girl lives
Over the cow patch hill – a high dose

Of lust –a drug quickly knocks out last
Traces of senses -troubling-in-mind in
Genetic roots where growth mimics life
To spread – Test each lie and lack in
Sweet talk in truth’s last cold emotions
Industrial waste and innovation tastes of
Revolutions’ enticements – shoo cats of
Con and divide interest charged the poor
For the richness of fat leftover to sic dogs
Upon – cover old limestone roads with
Patches of sparse turf – mark the bleed
Of health and peel away of riches from

The bark of trees falling to cemeteries
Underfoot – roots vine below ground in
Strata of wastes from the mouths of
Humanity recording markings on faces
Of stars and stone – without praise in the
Definite article for Elohim –nature burns
To choke on soot and tar fires – coal
turns the simplest meaning to change
love unnecessarily to the love of change
Oils rubbed onto hardware plasma to
Waters poured above and below the
Firmament – roll the dough for common

Bread – drain fish of oils for anointing
Rub the dead from skin – limestone road
Would cover and disintegrate with time
To force fields stilled to move with winds
And thorns –vines sprout to reign over
Unrighteous branches –so to lead to
Find the woman at home protected by
Rights of birth – The Lord leaves room for
Life as lived – give life all you can give
Walking on dried turf alongside in the
Safety of shoulders by limestone road.
