That tiny blotch upon my skin –
I watch it grow
and hope it won’t begin
to spread too far.
I’m not a hypochondriac;
I am a cautious person.
I am always thinking back
to my ancestors
that contracted cancer,
for I have cancer too.
I am sometimes thinking of it,
wond’ring what my chances are
and when I see a little bit
of something new upon my skin,
I think about “The War on Cancer”.
But when all my thinkings done
And before my life has run,
I have to say with little wit,
“I must accept things, so be it”.
