Astral bodies drag
gathered nets of spacetime tighter
in a bid to snag
tantalizing passing light but
only substance jags
photons from their vacuum flight and
warping brightly swerves
rays in lightspeed curves.
Air’s impeding brew
cambers rays away from heat to
splash a desert blue
from the sky’s reflective sheet or
grace an ocean view
with a ghostly ship or fleet and
furnish by mirage
fantasy’s montage.
Beamed to distant lands
through an outer orbit’s sable
or through lines of sand
fused to glass in seafloor cable,
light in mirrored strands
pulsed as waves of fact or fable;
glimmers of a soul,
fragments of a whole.
