Aleppo, Khan al-Asal,
The Basher forgets
Who has the most lethal armoury
Scuds a neighbourhood with pesticide,
Can’t remember the Kurds
Or Halabja Massacre
Or World War One,
In his War to end all Wars.
The world looks on
Rubs its eyes,
Retires for the day and
Forgets the question,
But worries intently
The tomorrow Syria
Will be a nursery for terrorists
After the prolonged escalation has
Been a magnet for disparate rebel
foreigners seeking a greater jihad,
Covering its’ mirrors to conceal
Contribution and solution.
The world,
afraid of Arabs or Muslims
Or the vortex of conflict and loss
Or commitment and resources to rebuild,
Stands back in fear of offending
Or being drawn into accusations
Of the lasting divine hatred loved
by ancient Christians,
Procrastinates and prevaricates
Forgetting complicity by inactivity
Where hatred from poverty
stalks a global village
The haves and never wills
Seeking refuge with their hemispheric patrons
Each dreaming of global subjugation
Respectively,
By debt or dogma.
The rubble nation
Leached of hope
And flushed of people
Sees the vacuum of eventual truce
When another Arabic iron fist is amputated
And fears its flexing replacement as
The victor fingers the shattered bowl
Carving fiefdoms or
barbaric sectarian boundaries from its pieces,
Enforced by religious totalitarianism
And the weapons provided to
Enforce compliance by the west
Whom diametrically oppose the paradigm,
but not the cash.
Poverty and hatred will be restored
Generations will live within familiar ruins,
Names will be changed to
Protect the regrown fist, and
arms loaded to
ensure consumption continues
instability’s maintained, and
prosperity traded.
Ah the West!
Stand back and
Feign despair
wave your arms,
And blow hot air,
But just enough
to stoke the flames
And guarentee
The status quo.
When aghast by terrorists
That grew from the debris
Fertilised by the detritus of war,
Remember,
Caveat emptor,
When dealing with the west as
They deal to war junkies
But don’t care for addicts,
Having no real capacity
Beyond a parasitic financial interest
In ignorant belligerents and
violent fundamentalist theists
To promote war and sell weapons
Free of responsibility,
leadership and humanity,
Unaware of the true power of conversation,
education and friendship,
Preferring instead their servitude.
Business is Business
When you selfishly choose
to remain oblivious
To the existence of
Or your residency in
a minuscule
global village.
