a god’s head for a paperweight
and nothing to write
the large window open upon
an inner garden
harbored from heat
and the swamping dust of July
a dachshund romps among roses
and yaps at a yawn
the edge of the sky above the wall
the laurel tree tipping it in
it is hard to be anywhere once
and twice is a dream
