On a wild midnight excursion,
I take a car ride in the trembling realm
Of illusions;
Thoughts scatter and fall apart.
Exiting on surreal rainy streets
Where time bends
Like in a Salvador Dali painting,
I think I could trace a perfume scent
Through a South American jungle
To find a gorgeous woman
With a missing earring
She left with me years before.
Love is a desperate child
Pounding at a closed door
That conceals his mother;
Only a relentless drive
Can keep beauty and romance alive
In the face of everyone’s willingness
To substitute and compromise
With their most meaningful emotions,
But I refuse!
