Winter’s dusk swathes tumultuous hearts
Blurred-gray gauze soothes the once lucent stars
Bare frozen boughs struggle to stay firm
Under weight of the unsettled gathering roost
Shaking off their snow-encrusted plumage
Muffled flutters expose soot-winged avians
Icy riprap shores silenced even the cat’s yowl
Burying bone-chilling sighs of ingenuous naïveté
Callowness susceptible to sorrows brisk chill
Suffocated beneath the delicate wafer-thin ice
Uncontrollable shivers of the enduring, lie dormant
Humbling the quiver of one more eve’s loneliness
