Nighttime’s pall lingered
In to the grey morning
Where it clung on to the
Anger and the hate that
Filled otherwise innocent
Benign words. Words
Poisoned with vicious
Intent, meant only to
Cause pain and torment.
If you wanted me to
Leave, all you had to
Do was ask. All of those
Blameless words
Soured and soiled by
The venom of a
Tongue eager to attack.
To taste the blood of
Its dormant, docile prey.
I feel for those words.
Weaponized for a
Battle, where there
Was none. Just you and
I. With one simple
Request, and only
A one-word
Simple response,
“Goodbye”.
Finally freed, all of
Those wonderful words,
From a rancid, miserable
Joyless dark existence.
Not to mention,
The same for the
Both
Of
Us.
Finally freed.
