No one is around to tell me no
so I am gonna do it …right now
I’ll need something to stand upon
An upside-down crate will allow
Climbing a tree like the squirrels do
Grabbing limbs…green leaves surround
Elevating while straightening a bent knee
Branches are getting supple…dipping down
Swaying limbs are bending from my weight
Looking down makes me feel queasy…
Time to reverse the trend of ascending
For some reason…this isn’t very easy
Inching backwards… down invisible stairs
Looking around…no chance for a rescue
Beginning to slip… losing confidence
gripping tightly…holding on like glue
Trying to find the courage to continue
I fear I’ll never be able to get down…
Wishing that I had thought this through
before getting so high from the ground
It is starting to get dark and I’m scared
there is nothing left to do except descend
Half way down…branches are stronger
Looking beneath me, I see Max…my friend
His tail is wagging…he has a puzzled look
As if to say…Rhonda, why are you up there?
Okay, here I come…I’ll be back down soon
Looking up to the sky…saying a little prayer
Losing my footing, I become demagnetized
Trying to give the heavily barked trunk a hug
Arms are subjected to very coarse scuffing
Black prevails…as if someone pulled the plug
Waking to a slobbery kiss that is well intended
Standing up…wondering if bones are broken
Walking on the path that leads back home
Tales of this adventure will remain unspoken
