.
My tattered heart was mended today
and my life has no longer gone astray.
I received a beautiful love-note bouquet
and now my heart is having itself a soiree.
You promised we’ll be together some lovely day
and embrace on a flower-strewn pathway.
.
So I gladly lay my head on silken pillow tonight
to think of you and I under a star-sprinkled night.
I bathe my lonely heart in the solitary candlelight
but I lie here in hope that I’ll whisper goodnight
and embrace you, my love, in tomorrow’s moonlight.
.
In the morning I shall rise and watch for you
coming to me amid the song of mourning dove coo.
Oh, don’t you know I could never wish you adieu
that I could never say farewell to a love so true.
.
I’d give my kingdom for you if it would engage
one more lover’s sigh on our journal’s page
Or one more night with you it would presage.
.
In the meantime I lie here alight at midnight,
my heart and my eyes waiting ever bright.
.
