Frost-sharp,a bottle clunked upon our step
The clanging milk van clattered in the cobbles
Glass bottles chattered merrily together
Like pensioners day tripping to Dunoon
The winter season worked its yearly magic
Each bottle wore a minister’s cream collar
Frozenly rising above the congregation
For birds to peck, like mischievous brown angels
