How is it
That in all this vastness of vastnesses
In all this monstrously old and large universe
In all these multiverses imagined or real
There is such intense beauty and greatness
Courage and higher feeling
In this one descendant of the viruses and the
This cousin of the chimps and bonobos?
How is it that it is only this one kind of being
Who makes the music and the literature
And has the awareness and feeling
The power of understanding
The capacity to love and be loved
The need to search and reveal the truth
And find faith in what is beyond all we are
And which we can find our ultimate hope in?
