I am of Irish descent, my roots show,
And I know everything there is to know.
I have travelled the world,
But I always come home to Ireland,
For I am an Irish breed through and through.
I make no bones about my mistakes,
I walk unguarded, I pound those pavements,
And I remember the peace talks,
The awfulness of a country divided,
And I talk to my friends, they of the same mind.
I talk in the traditional Irish way,
And I am a bard at heart, I talk tough,
But that is just me, for my roots show,
And I fit in wherever I go,
I go on planes and trains and anywhere else,
You could imagine, and I just want peace,
I want to be proud of my roots,
Like any self-respecting Irish person,
For Ireland is a country of countrymen,
And there should be no pain or sorrow,
All those dead from the war of religion,
And I pray to the Holy Mother to have mercy,
On those guilty, but looking now,
I see a country united, a country of hope,
And I am proud of these roots,
And always shall be,
For Ireland is my spiritual home.
