I was a part of your body for two hundred and eighty days
A full time parasite sucking away all your blood.
Causing numerous ailments, tension, stress and strain
Despite all these you didn’t feel a bit of hatred for me mom?
The day you heard my first cry was festive for you
You kissed me a kiss the most perfect and purest of all;
A kiss with the fragrance of a mother’s love
A kiss with the assurance of a mother’s care
I am not at all capable of clearing my debts to you
Your sleepless nights nursing me with sincere prayers
For my cure from illness and to regain my lost charm
The devout care forgetting own thirst and hunger
You induced in me courage and confidence
You passed on to me a rich culture, heritage and character
You kindled in me a holy lamp to eliminate darkness
You taught me expand my mind beyond the limits of horizon
All for nothing in return, but for the sake of love alone
You are the Goddess of love, you are the idol of selflessness
You are the embodiment of sacrifice and service
You are the cause of my life and lively existence
The idols in temples whose Darshan I have, have your countenance
The smiles on their face are so beautiful as your smiles
The Prasadoms of the temples are not so sacred as the food you gave
If Ever I meet you again my mom, I’ll be the happiest man on earth
