Birds cannot fly over it.
It is only as tall as I dictate.
One word from me, and the windows
open good-naturedly, doors close
off the unused rooms, or perhaps
the cellar loses its water.
I should imagine it would do
what imitations I tell it to;
I shall possess it.
And in it we will tend to
the doing of the days
with a new sense of righteousness.
O all the order by accident-
the coverings and the pretty pictures,
the authenticity of the materials!
And O the penny-color pronouncements!
I shall work its makers hard
to create an approving environment
for whatsoever I may choose
or henceforth be seized by.
Hereafter, let fantasy be exposed
for a common denominator.
For I shall live in this house
as the actress of my dreams,
in a house that invites my playing.
And I shall be the first instance
of health, gathering my split dreams
under the flag of abandonment.
In a house which loves you,
all things are possible.
