Her greeting was one word and as short as Hi
But I heard more from the silence than from the
Narrow European mouth and her naturally blond
And acclimated assimilation into the room of five
Black men preparing for a game of cards -players
Of some professional bent –these men -she was
Introduced as the woman whom I recognized as
Having recently met at her Medical Office where
I learned that she was a Psychiatrist -she melded
Into the room after a brief conversation ended with
Her nodding toward me to acknowledge that I was
The true friend of the host among the fraternity of
Card players but newly acquainted friends -she sat
Watching through card games as I drank to complete
Inebriation and loss of cash –to retire asleep nearby
On a couch cramped and crashed by liquor on a love
Seat -They say she sat demurely silent until the game
Came to end –when the host invited and lead two men
left to lay with her as I lay asleep hung over and
Spent of my day suffering the loss of biweekly pay
The host awakened me to say that the line was ending
If I wanted to get lay-ed –I did and tried but he sat by
The side of the bed where she lay I meant to lay her
But the spinning bed took me away -Oh the milieu of
Logan Circle Brownstones this visitor took the carriage
To get there and alight in her Princessness -she lay
Nobler men to lay for me -I lay impotent to lay her as she
Was potent when she came to the card game to lay me.
