We’d like to be nearer to Vera
but her violin gets in the way,
her elbow sticks out at an angle
impeding the speed of her play;
so discarding the fiddle, this lady,
who likes to do things by the book,
comes up with a plan to improve things
and determines to take up the uke’.
And things go so well, to begin with,
but I fear there will be no rewards,
what with Majors and Minors and Sevenths
Vera’s struggling to cope with the chords.
Now I’ll give her her due, she’s persistant,
but the chords have a devious way
of breaking down all her defences,
day after day after day.
But it’s onwards and upwards for Vera
who now moves to follow the tunes
with impetus fresh as a daisy,
she is cracking on now with the spoons;
and along with kazoo and a shaker
she shakes and she rattles and blows,
she’s making a good contribution,
and seemingly everything flows.
But still and all Vera’s not happy,
and isn’t fulfilled, we can tell,
she’s missing the uke’ and the fiddle
and often, she’s giving us hell;
to the point where her blood must be boiling
and in serious heated discussion
she’ll bark out her dissatisfaction with,
“I never wanted to be on percussion”
