Remembering him so we will
With this thought in mind
He’ll be up there looking down
Somewhere there’ll be a sign
It might be in the wind that blows
Or in clouds that come our way
Or in the sun we know will shine
Papa Tony has so much to say
Our basketball and soccer games
Matters not how it all unfurls
Win or lose it’s how we’ve played
Cause we’re Papa Tony’s .girls
We know he cares he always has
And giggling was our way
Papa Tony’s ..tickling us
Remembering him – we’ll say
He’s up there we know looking down
Always there’ll be a sign
Loving him you bet we will
With this very thought in mind
We’re Papa Tony’s ..girls!
Author’s note:
This poem is gifted to Kaelyn, age 9 and Haylie,12 in remembrance of their Grandfather, “Papa Tony.” Their grandmother, Julie sent me the following text message: “Jim, would you mind composing a poem that my granddaughters might share during their grandfather’s upcoming memorial service? If you don’t have the time, I’ll understand.” I wrote her back immediately, asking, “in a word or two, tell me a little something about them! “
