It is a dark cloudy night. The forest is full of trees, rounded in shape, with fresh green leaves. Krishna is scared. The chief of the cowherd commands Radha to take Krishna and leave him in his house. The tryst of Radha and Krishna, their marvellous encounters, a display of varied emotions, their moods, soft and tender, sometimes angry and jealous, or penitent and frustrated, even pining and lamenting, and finally the joyous union, are all a part of this immortal poem.
Blessed with a heart so pure,
Gifted with eloquent speech and expression,
One who worships the feet and the dance
Of his empress, adorable wife, Padmavathy,
Is the unique poet Jayadeva,
Who composes and sings the song of love,
Of Vasudeva and his love plays!
Where there is the rich flavour of emotion,
Where there is undying passion in love,
Where there is tenderness and sweetness in words,
Where the mind is full of profuse fantasy,
Then, read and listen to the love lyrics of Jayadeva!
Be it a rare word or phrase as expressed by Poet Umapati,
Or an unusual passage or content by the learned Sharana,
The work of Doyi-the renowned poet,
Govardhana Acharya, the great teacher,
Or even, Shruti, the flawless technique of art of love.
Jayadeva alone, could comprehend and contemplate,
Such enigma and depth, in the language of love!
