O spare me Lord from money in excess,
And let me never love it more than life;
It clothes my body with a pretty dress,
But puts my soul in never-ending strife.
So, let me never envy persons rich;
For wealth can’t buy a pass through Heaven’s Gate;
With time, it grows into an endless itch;
Whose sufferings, none can ameliorate.
Money gets spent to guard ‘gainst men who steal;
Forgotten ’tis, wherev’r it lies buried;
No wound of heart or soul, it tries to heal;
Hatred from friends and foes, it serves to breed.
Money can’t solve all problems that we meet,
Nor can it buy the handicapped lost feet.
