Ridiculous Midas broke his teeth on gold,
And the old fool repented.
The little princess resented
The pea: then they knew her. Folks in the old
Days made a regular profession of displeasure:
Castles were draughty
Arrangements, musty
Old tombs at best. Banging lances under the azure
Brought blue bruises, and later the fair lady
Gave out her favors
To the aching victor
From an icy bed. Ridiculous Midas beat his body
Against his gold sheets. The little princess tossed
All night on the pea.
Of all the ways to die,
To croak in a draughty castle is the best.
