We are living in a parallel world,
While the space/time continuum swirls,
As it dawns on our selfish selves,
That we’re in love.
We are living in ‘interesting times’.
That’s code for unspeakable crimes.
Yet our joy is so sublime,
‘Cause we’re in love.
We’re in love! We’re in love!
So we share when times are tough.
Like an old worn pair of gloves,
Of easy wear.
We’re in love! We’re in love!
Like the sacred flight of dove.
And we’ll soar so high above,
All petty care.
While the sad world falls apart,
We are hurled right off the chart,
Of a future more like artifice, and sham.
As deluded fools we smart,
At the jealous barb and dart,
When they say we’ve got no heart,
No bread or jam.
For if we live for just ourselves.
For our loved ones, and no one else.
We’ll destroy our common wealth,
And all be damned.
We are living in ‘interesting times’.
Yet we sleepwalk it out in mime,
As we wade through the rising grime,
Of grim despair.
In the slippage of paradigms,
Of the greed and trickle down slime,
We count out our shrinking dimes,
And invest in prayer.
We’re in love! We’re in love!
Like a zealot god we’re chuffed.
Indifferent to the suffering, and pain.
We’re in love! We’re in love!
We have shaved the odds and bluffed,
Like a Ponzi or Madoff,
For ruthless gain.
We’re in love! We’re in love!
And our facets are unscuffed.
Like a diamond in the rough,
And lucky vein.
We’re in love! We’re in love!
And when it comes to push and shove,
It is clear that it’s enough.
We are sustained!
