A Very Short Song
Once, when I was young and true,
Someone left me sad-
Broke my brittle heart in two;
And that is very bad.
Love is for unlucky folk,
Love is but a curse.
Once there was a heart I broke;
And that, I think, is worse.

Parker was no fan of fancy language, see –
Her words direct and cutting, precision Poetry!
No fan of metaphor, no use for filigree
But when I read I understand what she says to me!
And we all know she was more than good
Had years of excellence in writing
Simple words can be understood
Like of those Nash, Frost, and Kipling.
