may i take your hand
even if we are only
strangers in our eyes,
may i own your smiles
as you try not to cry
when the ships we are boarding
start to brace for the ocean tides?
the seagulls came
on the morning you walked on me
upon the sands of time,
now the seagulls fly
with your laughter
as i hear their fading cry
we are but strangers
thrown together by chance,
but was it chance that fixed our stares
when the sun broke through the clouds
as the seagulls scrambled to fight
for the crumbs we somehow threw
together?
our ships both have anchored
in the travels of our lives
but as we swim in the turquoise sea
and bask under the brilliant blue sky,
we fly as unfettered seagulls
high in the winds and fleeting clouds
but if we are to remain strangers,
let us not speak of our names,
for it will hurt even more
if i wake up one night and realize
i have your name to call,
one stranger who walked with me
upon the sands of time
