For Isak Dinesen
As we stood on the crushed stone
Of the drive, it was as if
A spring landscape unrolled
Between. Colors deep
As gems–the tapestry,
Intricate and rich,
Of a lifetime. I was
Assumed into this world;
These emblematic hues
Shone like vintage wine:
Jet–that contains darkness
For those who have known the worst;
Beige–parchment-colored,
On which a burning glass
Etches the mind’s runes;
Turquoise–that mood of green
And blue, field and sky~
Blending, to stand out.
Artist and woman moved there
Each in her separate light,
Clear-cut against a silver
Background of dream-all
Colors blend in silver,
A molten gong-whose full
Resonance an artist
Brocades upon the soul.
