I Have Delighted
There is no real pleasure in principles lost;
There is no real pleasure in sin.
If I believe that One looks down
And sees my every care,
Then that One too must look and frown
On sins that I would dare.
One cannot have his hopes both ways;
One goal must constant reign.
Should I determine to arrange
My future in Your hands,
One inadvertent lapse will change
That knowledge in my plans.
Oh, dying human that I am,
If only bones and flesh and skin
Then poor I am of all the reams
Who ever walked the earth,
But I am made of tears and dreams-
They are my greater worth.
O You, who see by dark of night
As clearly as by day,
Whose Knowledge sees through thickest walls
And knows full well the heart of me,
You who hear the weakest calls,
From secret sins pronounce me free.
