Forgotten Old Cabin
A forgotten old cabin at sunset,
Whose chinks have loosened and fell,
Only a few miles from the city,
But how many tales it could tell.
Built by the hands of a husband
Who brought his bride here to dwell.
Of children who played on the doorstep,
A family that changed through the years,
Of birth, joy, laughter, and singing,
Yes, also, death, sorrow, and tears.
If an old cabin could remember
The warmth that it gave from the cold,
The shade of the tree in the front yard,
Its branches now twisted and old,
Would it speak once more of its loved ones,
And stories that never were told?
We gave it a family at sunset,
For we saw its beauty, of course,
But it’s just a forgotten old cabin,
No feelings, no hopes no remorse.
